'경제가 불황일수록 미니 패션이 유행한다'는 속설을 단적으로 보여주는 것이라고 백화점 측은 설명했다.
가장 짧은 제품의 경우 22cm인 것도 있다. 원피스의 경우에도 작년에 이어 미니원피스의 유행이 계속되고 있어 길이가 작년에 비해 5cm 가량 짧아졌다고 백화점은 전했다.
영캐주얼 브랜드 중 코카롤리, BNX, 로즈블렛 등 브랜드는 23cm 내외의 미니 스커트를 4~5종씩 판매하고 있는데, 이달초 매장에 입고된 뒤 매일 20여 개씩 판매될 정도로 호응을 얻고 있다.
그러나 이처럼 미니스커트의 길이가 짧아지는 것은 꼭 불황과 관련이 있다기보다는 우리 사회의 분위기가 점차 자유로워지면서 여성들의 패션이 더욱 과감해지고 있는 것을 반영하는 것으로도 볼 수 있다고 업계 전문가들은 말하고 있다.
실제로 미니스커트 평균 길이는 경제 상황에 상관없이 최근 몇 년 사이 계속해서 짧아졌다.
신세계백화점이 조사한 `가장 짧은 미니스커트'의 길이는 2003~2004년에 26~27cm 정도에서 2005~2006년 25cm, 2007~2008년 24cm였다.
신세계백화점 본점 코카롤리 매장 관계자는 "매년 출시되는 미니스커트 길이가 점점 짧아지고 있는데, 우리나라 여성들도 이제는 짧은 미니스커트를 어색해하지 않는 것 같다"며 "날씨가 좀 더 더워지고 본격적인 여름이 되면 미니스커트 판매는 더욱 폭발적으로 늘어날 것으로 기대한다"고 말했다.
